Minutes 5/10/06
attending:
Lyssa, Sarah B, Nancy Aleo, Nettrice, Taylor, Maribeth, Jane, Mark Holland

Maribeth--Use available space for making resources available; color resources in 311, alcove outside cage for sample exercises, materials, etc. The materials to be used would be then worked on in the labs.

Could we ask the student center in kennedy to have a foundation space…

360 majors with 18 people per lab=20 spaces required
So for each student to come twice a week to work on campus we would need 40 classroom spaces each week and at least 12 monitors.

The goal is to create a community experience of working

If we have an open slot during the week for college meetings, then perhaps that slot could be used for a mandatory work time in the available classrooms

Coordination:
Real benefit to having grad student monitors, proactive grads to organize and facilitate evening labs

Content:
Form study—demos, mixing plaster, etc.

Visual language—color demos, powerpoint demos, printing demos, camera basics demos

Drawing—models

Other ideas:
Visiting artists
Meet with majors
Collaborative projects
Discussion of readings
Film series
Scholarship/advising support
Critiques

Should we connect this to the pilots?

Can we connect this to what is going on in the gallery?

24 hour drawing marathon in beginning of fall semester
also 24 hour form study marathon or digital marathons

Times:
Evenings
Friday afternoons
Weekend afternoons

Facilities
Create more storage spaces for students, not lockers
Find/create a good discussion room and a good artist presentation room

Can we find students who are our alumni to help us to organize and participate in these evenings…

What kind of funds do we need? For pizza or snacks sometimes?

This will help the commuters who don’t know how to find the space/context to make social connections.

VOTE
Add a drawing lab – 2 nights and a day a week, 2 labs open, need models, grad students/upperclasspeople

Faculty coordinator:
Events one night a week
Coordinates the labs, oversees the monitors

Mark Holland would consider being the faculty coordinator for a Thursday night event in 311

Form study has to move into another slot

Need to find availability of other rooms

Funds: faculty position
Monitors for drawing lab
$400 per week for 13 weeks for events=$5,200??

Exhibition space
What about designating a space for the students to have their own gallery space to run…

We request use use of second and third stairwell spaces for student proposed exhibitions.

There are security issues—we need to discuss with security more presence

Student committee to organize?
Coordinate this with the event night
Students have ownership of their spaces
Lights need to be fixed—need track light

Helene in admissions said to Mark that he could put work in glass cases outside of admissions!
